What We Do
Counselling is an opportunity to talk to someone in confidence about anything that is worrying you. This could be about home life, school, college, relationships, or just about how you are feeling about yourself. It is for when you have things going on in your life that you find hard to talk about with people who are close to you. Counselling is an appointment with the same counsellor every week (lasting 50 minutes), who will listen to you and help you explore how you are feeling. We will usually offer you counselling for 5 weeks or more if needed.
Our counsellors are friendly, welcoming, and will not make judgements about you or your problems. Your counsellor will never tell you what to do. All our counsellors are professionally trained to diploma and Degree level. All of our counsellors are members of the professional body, British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and all our work follows the BACP ethical guidelines.
Counselling follows simple steps
Step 1: Referral
- You can refer yourself or get a parent/guardian/friend/professional to refer you if you need help.
- Click on the referral button and complete all the sections.
- Or call us on 01329 822331
Step 2: Initial Assessment
- We will arrange a telephone call with a counsellor so you have the opportunity to ask any questions and set out your counselling goals while we ask you some background questions to ensure we are the right service for you.
- The call takes between 40-50 minutes and we ask that you are in a quiet safe space where you can talk without being interrupted.
- We are a confidential service and will not disclose your discussions outside the Moving on Project unless you or someone else is at risk, and we will consult with you about the best action to take.
Step 3: Having your sessions
- We normally offer 5 free counselling sessions but sometimes you may need more or less.
- Most of our sessions take place at The Xperience Youth Centre, Trinity Street Fareham
- You will see the same counsellor at the agreed day and time. On the first session, we will explain and have a contract about the different aspects of counselling which you and the counsellor will both sign.
- Throughout the sessions, you will review how the counselling process is going with your counsellor.
- At the end of counselling, we will invite you to feedback what you thought about our service.
We offer counselling remotely, over the phone, and in person in our dedicated offices. You can see what it's like to come see us in person here:
Counselling RoomsWhat we do at The Moving on Project
- We specialise in working with 11-25 year olds.
- The counselling provided is person-centred/humanistic - that means dealing with what is happening for you in the ‘here and now’. It helps you to understand how your emotions and actions are linked. Counselling is far more than listening; during counselling, a relationship is built between you and the counsellor. We never judge and do not give advice or tell you how to act but believe that understanding yourself will put you in charge of your choices and actions.
- They are all members of professional counselling associations, predominately the BACP, and work to the BACP ethical guidelines.
How can counselling help me?
Everyone is unique. Sometimes, just talking confidentially without being judged can be a big help. Others find it helps them understand a problem or worry and deal with difficult situations in a more positive way.
- You’ll talk to your counsellor about some of the things that have been going on in your life.
- When you talk about things that have happened, this can help change your view of things.
- Your counsellor can help you find different ways to deal with how you feel.
- Supporting you to make changes and improve your life.
Everything is confidential
Counselling is a confidential service. This means we won’t talk to anyone outside of The Moving on Project unless there is a serious risk of harm to you or another person.
If you want to read more about confidentiality, please read the: BACP guidelines
